Making dog cookies is so easy and you don't need to worry about the preservatives or additives that come in storebought cookies. Same PSA as before though -- before you start making treats for your pups, please read this to see which people foods are harmful (and even poisonous) to dogs. You might be surprised at what's on there!
This recipe makes ~50 biscotti slices. They're perishable, so they should be eaten pretty quickly.
Adapted from All Recipes
Ingredients:
- 2-3/4 c. whole wheat flour
- 1 c. pureed pumpkin (canned stuff is fine; just be sure that you get the 100% pumpkin, not the pumpkin mix)
- 2 eggs
- 2 Tbsp. natural peanut butter
- 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Add more flour if the dough is too sticky; add more pumpkin if it needs a bit more "liquid."
- Divide the dough into 2 parts and roll each part into a log. Cut the log into slices. (This is where the biscotti part comes in!)
- Bake for 40 minutes, or until the slices are hardened and very lightly browned.
- Let cool and store in an airtight container.

Verdict:
These smelled wonderful while they were baking -- just like Thanksgiving! I couldn't help but take a bite when they came out of the oven. They were pretty bland. =) But the dogs loved them! Here's what they thought:
(Please excuse the gratuitous babytalk. They are, after all, my babies.)

Thanks for posting! Looks like your dogs really enjoyed them. Was thinking I would make these, but my boyfriend thinks his dog has digestion issues with wheat/wheat flour... so I may have to tweak it a bit.
Hi Megan -- This recipe should hold up well to most flours, but I think a brown rice flour may work well for you. My parents' dog has a gluten allergy, so I know how hard it is to find foods they can eat!
